Officials say that at approximately 4:40 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, 74-year-old Christopher Carryington, of North Beach, was operating his mobility scooter in the crosswalk when he was struck by Owings resident Kathy Ann Jones, 67, in Chesapeake Beach.

The initial investigation determined that Carryington was in the crosswalk across Bayside Road when he was struck by a 2001 Honda Accord that made a lefthand turn into the roadway and struck him near Harbor Road.

Officials say that Carryington was ejected from the scooter and sustained “serious injuries.” He was transported to MedStar Hospital, where he remains in stable condition on Monday, March 6.

According to investigators, “at this time, it appears that driver error was a contributing factor to this collision.”

The incident remains under investigation.
